Sentimental Hysteria
The project is rooted in photography, not as a tool of representation, but as a space of transition. The image becomes an extension of visual thought, an attempt to give form to something not yet defined. Each step, from building models to photographing them and then intervening with paint, questions how images are made and transformed. Photography operates as an in-between space: it fixes while displacing, invents while remembering. What interests me is the moment when a mental image seeks to materialize, to become surface, light, and matter. This approach resonates with certain contemporary photographic practices, such as Thomas Demand’s, though here the aim is not to reconstruct reality, but to let its inner shadow emerge through an intimate space made visible by photography.
I recreate these scenes as models using simple materials: cardboard, plaster, paper, miniature objects. They do not seek architectural accuracy, but atmosphere and light. Fragile and unfinished, they remain deliberately hidden. I photograph them, print the images on canvas, then alter their surfaces with paint. Layers accumulate like memories that shift over time, reintroducing uncertainty. Between familiarity and distance, these spaces give as much weight to emptiness as to form.
What I present is not the original object, but its echo: fragments where the object slips into memory and the scene becomes sensation. The passage from one medium to another engages the formation of the image and its instability. The image becomes a mutable place, always in transformation, suspended between what has existed and what is imagined.
